After the successful meeting earlier in the year with the EA's Dr. David Landrum we were asked by many pastors if we could organise a follow up meeting. Dr Landrum spoke passionately about today's changing society, sexual ethics, current and upcoming public policy issues, and our Christian responses to them.
We have invited Jeanette Howard and Sean Doherty to come and speak to us to address the subject of Godly Living in Today's World from a pastor viewpoint. They are both have much experience in this area and often work together as part of the Living Out organisation.
'Living Out' works in partnership with local churches and complement the work of organisations like the True Freedom Trust who offer biblical support and encouragement to Christians who experience same-sex attraction.
This one day conference, which includes lunch, will help prepare equip you to understand and help those who experience same sex attraction and /or gender confusion. It will also help prepare you for pastoral ministry in this area. We encourage church leaders to bring their counselling and pastoral teams with them.
Revd Dr Sean Doherty is Director of Studies and a tutor at St Mellitus College in London, where he also lectures in Christian ethics. St Mellitus is a theological college established in 2007 by the Church of England, and has campuses in Earl's Court, Chelmsford, Liverpool and Plymouth.
Sean is a gregarious character who has an MPhil and DPhil in Christian ethics. He is author of 'The Only Way is Ethics: Part 1' which looks at Marriage and Sex. 'The Only Way is Ethics: Part 2 Life and Death' which is about medical ethics; and is currently writing the third part of the trilogy which focuses on money and economic ethics.
He is also Assistant Minister at St Francis, Dalgarno Way - a Church of England Urban Priority Area (UPA) plant in London, which was established under the Holy Trinity Brompton umbrella.
Sean is married to Gaby and the couple have four children. He is also same-sex attracted and still experiences same-sex desires. However, he describes himself as ‘post-gay’, choosing to define his sexuality in terms of his ‘male’ gender rather than 'gay' or 'straight'. Sean's powerful story is testament to God's goodness and the importance of not labelling ourselves. Sean and Gaby offer essential advice to anyone who experiences same-sex attraction, yet is considering marriage.
He is also actively involved in local community as a school governor, and is a member of the Church of England General Synod, where he sits on the Mission and Public Affairs Council.
Jeanette is a Christian author and public speaker. She has a passion for discipleship. She travels widely speaking about her own experience of same sex attraction. A Christian for over 30 years now she counsels and teaches those seeking to leave homosexuality behind and live a Godly lifestyle. The beginning of her own story can be found in her first book, 'Out of Egypt'.
